Colin Wiggins, Special Projects Curator at the National Gallery, reflects on Kienholz’s subversive practice, with specific reference to his major exhibition at the ICA in 1971 and its impact on contemporary British art Wiggins curated the exhibition of "The Hoerengracht" at the National Gallery in 2009 and this talk examines the enduring power of Kienholz’s sensationalist sculpture and installation through screenings of documentaries on the artist, including: “Kienholz: On Exhibit”, LA County Museum of Art Retrospective, 1966 and “Kienholz: The Story of an Artist” G.E. Theater Television Show, c. 1961 – 1962
