Tomorrow (Saturday, November 17) is the absolute last day to view Alison Saar’s solo exhibition "STILL…," on view at the Ben Maltz Gallery, Otis College. A closing reception with poetry reading by author Harryette Mullen will take place from 3-5 PM.
“50 Proof is dealing with that stereotype of the tragic mulatto, and pulls into Obama and this notion, where in the beginning he was not black enough for the black community, and he was definitely not white enough for the white community, and everyone’s trying to make him something other than what he is. It’s this sort of being between two races and between two worlds, and having to feel compelled to align yourself with one or the other.
I felt that a lot growing up, being very fair-skinned, but really communicating and more involved with my mother’s side of the family - my African American side of the family.” — Alison Saar
